  • Time Zone: GMT+5:30 (same as India)

  • Language: Sinhala and Tamil are the official languages, English plays an important practical role, especially in urban areas and among professionals.

  • Dress Code: Modest attire is required when visiting temples - cover shoulders and knees.

  • Connectivity: Tourist SIM cards are affordable and available at the airport.

  • Currency: The local currency is the Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR). Credit cards are widely accepted in urban areas, but keep cash handy for rural purchases and tips.

  • Tipping: Appreciated but not obligatory. Round up or leave 5–10 % in restaurants.
